Dental Fillings

Fillings Have Changed

Fillings have long been a solution to stop cavities from reinfecting a tooth. However, today they don’t show up as silver in your mouth. Options now focus on composite fillings that look like natural teeth.

Silver Away!

Dentists no longer use silver amalgam fillings. It was shown they contain mercury and that is unhealthy. Dental professionals now rely on ceramic and resin that produces a natural-looking result. Composite fillings are durable and can last up to 10 years.

The Simple Steps to Getting a Filling

A local anesthetic is applied. First, a numbing gel is applied topically before getting the injection that numbs the area.

The cavity tissue is removed. You may feel pressure but will not feel pain.

The composite material fills the hole.

A light is used to harden the composite material.

The tooth is smoothed and polished to integrate the filling into the tooth, so it isn’t noticeable.

Don’t Put Off Dealing with Cavities

Cavities worsen if left untreated. They can get infected and cause pain. Fillings that are lost should be replaced. Stage 1 cavities may not need a filling if they can be reversed with fluoride treatment. Contact Mall Road Dental to schedule an exam.
